How To Pick An AdSense Niche

February 20th, 2011Comments Off

There are two questions I feel that are important to answer to make your AdSense sites profitable.

The first is, what are you interested in? Now, notice I didn’t ask, what are you passionate about? Why? Because I don’t think it’s that important. But you do need to be interested enough in spending about an hour or so each week doing some moderate promotion.

The problem most people make with AdSense is picking a topic that has high PPC value, but they are not interested in. Let me give you an example:

Let’s say you researched and found out the keyword “Ohio Lemon Laws” has a PPC value of $74.86. This is an extremely high number. But, if you don’t have the mindset to go and take part in online discussions, participate in message boards, find some chat rooms, post a few message sin Usenet groups, write a press release every month and submit it to the PR directories, and write an article or two each month and submit those top the different article directories, etc. etc, etc. about Lemon Laws, you are not going drive any traffic to the site.

But, again, it comes down, are you motivated enough to write about lemon laws? If you are, great, that is a great niche, but, if you are not, then it is a terrible niche.

And that brings you to the second question. Can you spend an hour or two each week promoting the site/topic? Now, the reason I always tell people to pick something they are at least a little interested in is because your interest in the topic will make promoting that much easier.

For example, my site is about a surgery I had. Well, it is real easy for me to promote it because I like talking about it. In fact, I bet there are weeks when I spend 10 hours or more just promoting the site, in my day to day activities. The neat thing about this is, I don’t even realize it. You know what I mean?

Of course, just answering these two questions doesn’t necessarily enough. I still have to find enough content to make it worth your while, and I need to make sure there are some high paying keywords. That being said, a site based on a $6 keyword that you have an interest in and can drive people to, will make you more than a site based on a high keyword that nobody visits.

PS let me give you an example of what I mean about promotion being almost transparent. I have an interest in AdSense, right? Well, after spell checking what I just wrote you above, I realized it could easily be turned into a decent article about how to promote your AdSense site. I didn’t sit down to write an article about this topic. I just sat down to write you a quick email. But because I am interested in the topic, it came out easily.

Web Hosting

When it comes to website hosting, it is important to find a host that will allow multiple domains, is inexpensive, and reliable.  Here is who I use and recommend: http://www.danschulz.com/ultimate-hosting-bargain

Domain Registration

You can register your domain(s) at any of the popular domain registrars. Personally, I use Internet.BS. I like them for two reasons: (1) it's the cheapest place I have found to register domains, and (2) they offer free WHOIS privacy. Perfection!
